Rolling Stone breaks (walnut) bread with the Beastie Boys

From Rolling Stone:
Smoking Section When the Smoking Section was age eight, we knew every word to “Paul Revere,” so it was certainly a full-circle thrill to sit around the kitchen table eating a loaf of walnut bread with MCA, Mike D and AdRock at their Oscilloscope studio in New York. The Beastie Boys (decked out in suits and snap-brim hats, like the Specials) gave us the skinny on The Mix-Up, their dope new instrumental album. “The initial inspiration was ‘Let’s all get in a room and start playing instruments and see what comes out,’ ” says drummer Mike D. Bassist MCA adds, “It wasn’t full-on jazz-odyssey improvising, but coming up with grooves.” Soon, grooves piled up, turning into songs. “It was like, ‘Well, we could add vocals to this,’ ” says Mike D. “But we felt it worked well as its own thing.” They considered including rolling papers in the CD booklet, but no such luck. The beat drops in June. More good news: After dates in Europe, the Beasties will hit the U.S. In many towns they’ll play two nights, the first at a big venue, offering the classic B-Boy experience, and the next go at a more intimate theater, Mix-Up style. Adds MCA, “Shit is funky.”

The Beastie Boys probably spent an hour with the Rolling Stone dude, and all they got out of it was a blurb.

Beastie Boys should be talking about their new album with the fans via their web site and message board.

Frickin' put that blog to use, Beastie Boys! Otherwise, there's no point of having it.

Agree.

I want some press coverage!

the BBMB is still down.

but i guess the beastie boys' strategy is to overwhelm the fans with a lot at once, then leave them wanting more afterwards...for a while! or maybe until the album is actually released. the only thing that's keeping me from going crazy is listening to the two new tracks and watching this of course. :)

i'm very excited about the US tour...damn, i hope they come here! *crosses fingers*

agreed!! Mike D did update the tech/specs a few days ago with the Rhythm Ace...I keep wanting to call it Bentley Rhythm Ace. Here's hoping they play the ampitheatre in Virginia Beach and then a gala in Norfolk, Virginia...highly unlikely but let's see.

I was hopeful when I saw the official blog but they don't seem serious about updating it.

why doesn't yauch post on the mb anymore? he used to tell us stuff.

I don't know if it's true but I heard Yauch is tired of their fan base and wants new fans. :( Is that why they made an instrumental record?

From whom did you hear that?

I stopped trying to figure out the Beastie Boys. The things they do don't make sense.

yauch doesn't have time for the message board - he's working on his kung-fu moves

Yauch is a real softie. Does THIS look like a man who doesn't like fans?

*giggles* oh man i'm thinking about his wet nose again! :)
