Beastie Boys featured in Lee "Scratch" Perry documentary

A one-minute commercial for The Upsetter: The Life & Music of Lee "Scratch" Perry

Beastie Boys are featured in a new documentary about Lee "Scratch" Perry, which is currently being screened at the South by Southwest Film Festival in Austin, Texas. The Upsetter: The Life & Music of Lee "Scratch" Perry, by directors Ethan Higbee and Adam Bhala Lough, tells the "fascinating story of Perry, a visionary musician and artist from poor rural Jamaica, who journeyed to the big city in the late 1950's with dreams of making it in the burgeoning record industry."

Adam Yauch is rumored to be making a stop at the festival in Austin to help promote the film on the Beastie Boys return from Mexico. For screening dates and times, visit the SXSW web site.

I'm sorry you won't be able to go on Tuesday, R. But, of course, your mom will be there! hehehe.

sooo...uh, according to yauch, he won't be there to watch the upsetter because he's leaving before that.

so um...i love being a volunteer. i just stared at him in awe at first, and my words were all jumbled together and i was shaking like a crazy person. i pretty much felt like fainting. He went to go see the movie that was playing at the theater that i was volunteering at. the movie was "not your typical bigfoot movie" (the whole day i was hoping/expecting him to see this movie) and i think he told me that it was good (my mind was kinda going crazy). I could be making this up, but i asked him if he saw any good movies yet, and i believe he said he saw "new orleans mon amour".

well, anywho, i'm extremely happy. i first saw him before the movie, and as soon as he went inside, me and my friend were screaming and jumping up and down like little fan girls...and then my theater manager laughed at us and went inside and told yauch (at least that's what he tells us he did)

Haha, that's great, R! :D Did you run into him by coincidence or did someone tell you that they saw him? I'm not sure I'd recognize him without his two pals.

It was completely by coincidence...it def caught me by surprise! I was standing in front of the theater answering questions and letting people know if they can go into the movie or not. Then, as i was watching people walk by, my eyes fell on some guy with gray hair. and this guy was staring back at me. I think a huge smile crept on my face, and i'm pretty sure i wasn't breathing. my friend saw my expression and him and then connected the two and said "oh my god." he approached me and my head was spinning because there were soo many things i wanted to ask him/say to him. basically, i said "hellooo! wha-uh, how, what umm" and then he just smiled and started pulling out his badge for me to verify that he can go in, but before he pulled it out, i touched his arm and said "i KNOW who YOU are"....i'm pretty sure i made a fool out of myself.

You are so lucky razmatazern!!! I would have fainted or done something stupid and make myself look like an idiot!!

Did he recognize you, R? Was there a look of recognition on his face? Like "I know I've seen your face before but I'm old so don't expect me to remember where."

That's the way I look at people, btw. I'm old too. LOL

i'm not sure if he recognized me...i'd like to think he did, but the look he gave me was probably just because it looked like i just saw the ghost of a lover from a previous life (or something of that sort).

and i def felt like fainting or throwing up or something afterwards...i had to sit down, and i started shivering like crazy.

@funkyfour- no, they won't be playing at sxsw. yauch left today and the others aren't here, but money mark is performing and i heard that mix master mike is too but i don't know much about his set.

R, would you please call or email me after you see the Lee Scratch Perry film? I'd like to hear your overall impression of the film and also learn how big of an appearance the Beastie Boys have in the film. Thanks!
