Beastie Boys have announced that they will be doing several shows for Rock the Vote in the coming weeks. Rock the Vote is an organization that focuses on getting young people involved in the voting process to achieve progressive change in the United States (i.e., kick some ass).
In their official e-newsletter, Beastie Boys explain their involvement in these shows:
this election is too important, too much is at stake to stay at home. we hope that you can come out, have a nice night, dance, sing, get your freak on, and then wake up the next morning and get everyone that you possibly can to get out and vote.
Sheryl Crow, Ben Harper, Jack Johnson, Norah Jones, Crosby & Nash, Santogold, and Tenacious D will also be performing at these shows. (Check specific shows for exact line-up; it will vary by city.)
So far, Beastie Boys have announced their involvement in three shows, with more to follow.
October 28 - Richmond Coliseum - Richmond, Virginia [Tickets on sale October 11]
November 1 - Roy Wilkins Auditorium - St. Paul, Minnesota [Ticket info to follow]
November 2 - US Cellular Arena - Milwaukee, Wisconsin [Tickets on sale October 11]
Please note that the ticket links above have changed. Also, the shows are being billed as "Get Out and Vote '08," not "Rock the Vote" — so use that search criteria at Ticketmaster.com.

Inquiring minds want to know, will these shows be full sets or three songs?
It's not Live Aid. My guess is that they'll be short sets.
I'm not willing to sit through Norah Jones to see the Beasties.
This news makes me so happy!!! :D
i'm def hitting the Richmond show. hopefully the tickets won't be outrageous.
Norah Jones is way better than Sheryl Crow.
Too bad my state isn't a swing state! Washington is Obama all the way!
I'm embarrassed my state is a swing state, however, I'm happy the Beasties are coming because of our stupidness.
Good to see Tenacious D on the bill too!
@Heathero: I updated the ticket info. Tickets for the Richmond show go on sale tomorrow at 10 am for $35.
Are Beastie BOys headlining these shows?
ah too bad The Netherlands arn't an American state...
Would be great to see Crosby & Nash and Beastie Boys in one show!!
i live here in richmond and I'll be passing this show...i'd rather drive 2 hours to DC to see them than here at the Richmond Coliseum.. first, I dont agree at all with their politics but more so, the Richmond Coliseum is a total dump. 1970s architecture at its most absolute cheesiest. looks like a brady bunch set on the inside.
A Brady Bunch set sounds groovy -- just like the Beastie Boys. :D
Got my tix to the Richmond show, anyone else going? if so hit me up on BBMB, i'm AceFace.
thanks for the update, hot sauce, but i posted that in beastie gen about the same time you found out too. :)
oh, and looking at the richmond coliseum site, it looks like the beasties are headlining, so maybe a longer set from them?
be said...i live in near virginia beach and i have to agree with you on the richmond coliseum. we have the norfolk scope here, it's a dump as well. I'm suprised Beastie Boys didn't want to play at the Constant Center next to ODU. It's a nice venue. I was planning to see Minus The Bear in Richmond on the same night. Wonder if I could catch both.
i imagine they're playing Richmond b/c it's the state capitol.
i for one am glad... a 3 hour drive to Richmond is much better than a 5 or 6 hour drive to Norfolk, for me.
