Adam Yauch interviewed for Bad Brains documentary

Adam Yauch will be seen in a new documentary on Bad Brains. Aptly titled Bad Brains, the documentary tells the story of the legendary D.C. hardcore band from their beginning to present-day. Filmmakers Mandy Stein and Ben Logan interviewed Yauch and a number of other musicians who have been inspired or worked with Bad Brains for the documentary.

The film, which is currently in post-production, does not yet have a set release date. The filmmakers are calling for fan submissions of video, audio, photos, flyers, 'zine articles, and other media related to Bad Brains to help them finalize the documentary. If you have material that might interest the filmmakers, email them at badbrainsmovie [at] gmail.com.

Listen up: Adrock and Teriyaki Boyz!

For your listening enjoyment, we have the three songs that Adam Horovitz contributed to on the new Teriyaki Boyz album Serious Japanese. The album is not yet widely available; however, if you go to your local record store, you can ask to order the album.

Beastie Boys to play Bonnaroo Music Festival?

A friend who runs a Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival message board pointed out that the festival recently "friended" the Beastie Boys on its Myspace official page at Myspace.com/bonnaroo. Traditionally, the Top Friends on the Bonnaroo Myspace page have been artists performing at the current year's festival.

Today, however, the Beastie Boys and a number of other artists tipped to be performing at this year's festival were un-friended at the Bonnaroo Myspace page. Was some messing around or did someone prematurely friend some bands and give away a secret? Find out on February 3, when the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival line-up will be officially announced.

Beastie Boys take their sweet time with album-making

When asked by MTV News if the Beastie Boys's new album will be released in May, Adam Yauch responded, "I don't know if you [want to] go down to Vegas and throw down a bet just yet." For those of you who don't speak Yauchish, it means the new album will be done when they feel it is done.

We confirmed with a label source that the Beastie Boys's new album does not have a set release date; it is simply "expected by summer 2009."

At the moment, Beastie Boys prefer to talk about the remastered Paul's Boutique (see above video), which was originally expected to be released by the end of this month, but now has a pushed-back release date. According to the label source, the band is still working on the remastering.

Adrock produces Teriyaki Boyz tracks

Adam Horovitz has contributed to the Teriyaki Boyz's second album, titled Serious Japanese. Fans may recall that Horovitz produced several tracks on the Japanese rap group's first album, Beef or Chicken, in 2006.

Horovitz produced three tracks on Serious Japanese

  1. "Please Come (Intro)"
  2. "(Can’t) Bake That Fape" (co-produced with Takagi Kan)
  3. "Get the Hell (Outro)"

Serious Japanese is set to be released on January 28.

  • Adam Yauch brings sexy shoe back

Footwear company Airwalk is crediting Adam Yauch with its decision to bring back a discontinued shoe, the Desert Boot.

Before the last Beastie Boys tour, Yauch contacted Airwalk and requested the shoe, which has not been produced for years. Airwalk apparently replied, "Your wish is our command," as the bass man wore the shoe often throughout the entire world tour.

Airwalk will give away 300 pairs of Yauch's beloved shoe at its "Breaking the Mold" event at Hotel on Rivington in New York on January 27, from 7-10 pm. (The shoe is not being produced for retail.) If you would like to attend the event and have a shot of getting a free pair of the Desert Boot, RSVP to RSVP@airwalk.com by January 23.

NME gives scoop on new Beastie Boys album

In NME's preview of new albums in 2009, the Beastie Boys are featured with great news for the fans if it is true:
Believe it or not, what looks likely to be called 'Tadlock's Glasses' will be Beastie Boys' eight studio album. Recorded in their own New York studio and using samples plucked from shops the world over, it sees them ditch politics and going back to their party-starting roots. Expect steel drums, a collaboration with Santogold and a huge world tour in 2009. Release date: Expected late Spring 2009.

Mic to Mic gets a makeover

We've been wanting to give Mic to Mic a makeover for a while, and the promise of a new album and tour from the Beastie Boys was our inspiration to finally get it done. We've added a few different features, including a listing of the updates at our sister site, Beastiemania.com.

Also, we've decided to discontinue work on Oscope Archive, due to a lack of time to develop and edit it properly. If you are interested in taking over the site, please contact us at Mic2Mic.editor [at] gmail.com.
