Release date for new Beastie Boys album not determined

Contrary to some reports, Hot Sauce Committee, Pt 2 does not yet have a set release date. A source at Capitol Records, the Beastie Boys record label, told me yesterday that the album is neither completed by the band nor has a definite release date.

Late last year, Beastie Boys management and Capitol reps discussed a possible March release date. When the deadline passed for the band to deliver the album in time for the label to coordinate a March release, the parties met again a few weeks ago to discuss a new release date. The meeting ended with no release date determined.

Please don't believe the reports by media who aren't checking their facts and are just regurgitating what some other media source is reporting. Believe me when I tell you that Beastie Boys will announce the album's release date to fans themselves through their own channel (i.e., official web site, official e-newsletter) when they're good and ready.

I didn't believe the April date because Mike mentioned they were hanging with Zdar a few days ago. I don't understand the delay. I thought the album was done 2 years ago.

The media suck. They care more about scooping all the other media or getting an 'exclusive' than getting the story right. So if it's not going to be released in April, when do we predict it might be? May...June...January 2012??

My best guess is May or June. Keep in mind that although it is unlikely Beastie Boys will tour in support of the album (does anyone expect them to?), they will surely make appearances and play some promo gigs or mini-gigs to showcase the new material. They won't do live performances without Mix Master Mike. He has tour commitments on Lil Wayne's tour through the end of April.

NME is reporting May 3 as the release date.

Yes, I know. It's a projected date. Again, I advise y'all to wait for the band to announce it. That's when you can believe it.

I agree with waiting for the band to announce the album. After all the time waiting for the album to be released and the worrying about Yauch, I NEED to hear the news from them.

You can't believe anything piece-of-shit NME publishes.

@Penny You said exactly what I was thinking!

I'm glad to hear it's finally coming. I don't care if it's next month or the following month. It's coming.

I'm bothered by the band still working on HSC. What could they be doing with the album which was previously done? Remixes don't take so much time to make. My worst fear is Zdar is turning HSC into a pop record.

Early review of HSC: "It's got a good beat and you can dance to it."

@Kevin It's my understanding that they re-recorded some of the songs, not just remixed songs.

Ha! NME removed its story about the Beastie Boys release date.

Some people have pointed out that the NME report said it confirmed the May 3 release date with the label. If NME confirmed anything, it probably did so with EMI in England, who wouldn't be in a position to know as much as the Capitol office in LA. (Capitol falls under the umbrella of EMI.) My source is at Capitol L.A., who deals directly with Bboys mgmt, who also happen to be located in L.A.

But all of this doesn't matter because as I said, you should look to the band for the confirmation. If it's true that NME deleted the story (I haven't checked to see if it's true), it probably did so because the report was false.

I'm gonna wait for the parents to announce the bouncing baby album has been born.

Thanks for clearing this up. Stupid media gets our hopes up! Anyway Spring is still good either way, but what about the single Make Some Noise?? Is that not being released at the end of March?

1:59 PM Hot Sauce said...

Sorry, I didn't think to ask about the single. I think my source would have volunteered that info to me if it was scheduled.

If I recall correctly, the info about a "Make Some Noise" single being released in March was originally reported in the Italian Mike D interview. That interview was conducted in October or November, so I think you have to discount all the details reported in it.

Good point newstyle.

The Boys know this will be their last album. They hadn't planned on that, so are back in the studio/lab making sure what they release is the craziest, dopest, most full-on Beastie experience imaginable. They will not hold anything back. They're going out with a bang, and it's going to be amazing.
