Cured like ham!
Michele Lupi and Adam Yauch in Venice. Photo: GQ.com Italy.
Michele Lupi, the editor-in-chief of GQ Italy, has become an unusual source for an update on Adam Yauch. In an editorial posted at GQ.com Italy, Lupi describes meeting Yauch in Venice this month and shares details from personal conversations with Yauch.
In his editorial (published in Italian HERE [DEAD LINK]), Lupi explains how he came to connect with Yauch. The story goes that Lupi was contacted by Italian rapper Jovanotti, a friend of Yauch's, to help Yauch find a house to rent in Venice while he attended the Venice Film Festival. Lupi used his connections to help out Yauch.
During a party for the Venice Film Festival, Lupi ran into Yauch and introduced himself as the guy who helped him with the house. Yauch thanked him, and the two chatted casually. Lupi decided to brave the personal question about Yauch's health and was surprised that Yauch responded openly and frankly. Yauch told Lupi that after 12 months of trying to beat the cancer, he believes that he has finally found the cure. Yauch said the trip to Venice and the Venice Film Festival was to celebrate the cure.

GREAT NEWS!!!!
Congrats to Yauch on beating the cancer.
OMG! I am just in tears. I love Yauch. I am so happy to hear he's fought it but I didn't know just how difficult it's been for him and this interview reveals that he seemed to really go through some hell. Poor thing, bless him. All that matters to me is that he is healthy.
That's really fantastic news.
This is wonderful news. I was worried when he stopped updating us. I thought it meant the worst. I wish Yauch continued improving health.
Let's top him with pineapple and cherries!!! :)
CONGRATULATIONS YAUCH!! XOXOXO
I'm so happy! I cried when I read the news. I've been praying for him. We need Adam Yauch in this world.
Awesome news. Thanks for translating. I'm looking forward to Beastie Boys return in 2011.
I am very happy to learn MCA has a cure. I am curious why he is open with a stranger but not with fans. Sorry for my english.
Andreas - fans are strangers too. Who knows why Yauch told this GQ dude before he told anyone else. It doesn't matter. All that matters is he's doing well.
Fans are strange strangers...haha
Yaaaaaayyyyyy!
He's lookin' fly in that pic, too!
It's wonderful news! I would like to put my arms around him & give him a big squeeze!
congrats mca!
In his article, Lupi describes himself as a big Beastie Boys fan. In fact, he says that the Beastie Boys show he saw in Milan (during the Pageant Tour) was one of his favorite of the last 10 years. Lupi says the Beastie Boys represent true artistry to him -- they are creative, intelligent, and passionate about what they do.
Best news ever!
This is terrific news to read. I wish Adam good health.
I hope MCA really did find a cure. He has to keep watch over it for a while & be sure it doesn't come back.
very cool...mca showed cancer who the boss is!
YAAAAYYY!!!! AWESOME, AWESOME NEWS!!!!!!!
wow thanks a lot for sharing this. I'm italian and i would've had no idea about this article otherwise. I was also in venice at the festival for work but i missed him. i would just add that by the way it's put in the article, it doesnt really say he's beat cancer yet, just that he's positive that they've finally found a cure that will completely heal him. either way, it was a very moving/nice story. thanks again for sharing
It'll be years before he knows if he is completely cured. But if the cancer is not growing, he is cured for now.
I think everybody knows with cancer you're never really in the clear. It's great he thinks he found a cure. It's very good news.
YAY! CONGRATULATIONS MCA!!
Congratulations to Adam
MCA is mowin' down life's ills like he's mowin' a lawn.
I was wondering how he was doing. Thanks for the update.
When I read this I blasted Bodhisattva Vow through my house. (sorry neighbours)
i hate to say this, but parts of this lupi article read more like a bret easton ellis novel than journalism. mca is quoted as saying that he rather would like to wear some classic italian chique for the premiere of sofie coppola's film than the band of outsiders smoking his wife gave him... yeah, right. silly. i think this piece is more about lupi than about mca. anyway, let's hope that he got the important facts right.
